Professional Design Services at Wes-Tech
Best practice in the irrigation industry is that each irrigation system has an irrigation design. It is the foundation of how the system is being installed and will ensure the overall quality of the system.
With decades of industry experience, Wes-Tech offers comprehensive design services that bridge the gap between concept and reality. Our core strength lies in our in-house irrigation designs, but our expertise extends further through strategic partnerships with top manufacturers to provide professional lighting, drainage and water feature designs.
Whether you are a homeowner looking to automate your watering or a contractor managing a complex commercial site, our design team ensures your system is efficient, effective, meets industry standards and is built to last.
The Value of a Professional Irrigation Design
Investing in professional irrigation design is not just about drawing lines on paper, it is about protecting your investment and ensuring long-term sustainability. Professional designs eliminate guesswork and provide a blueprint for success.
Key Benefits:
- Project Clarity: A clear, to-scale plan visualizes the entire project before a single shovel hits the ground, reducing confusion and preventing costly mid-project changes.
- Water Conservation & Efficiency: Our designs are optimized to minimize waste. We calculate precise water usage and pressure requirements to ensure every drop is used effectively, lowering utility bills and promoting environmental responsibility.
- Regulatory Compliance: We design with foresight, anticipating local watering restrictions and ensuring your system meets all applicable municipal by-laws.
- Installation Precision: A detailed plan provides installers with exact specifications and ensures the system is built correctly the first time.
- System Management: An irrigation system that is not properly designed will be nearly impossible to manage properly.
- Quality Control: Wes-Tech will review and approve any necessary field changes or equipment substitutions to maintain the integrity of the original design.
- Accurate Bidding: Design documents provide a "common language" for contractors. When you request bids based on a standardized design, you can accurately compare quotes, knowing every contractor is pricing the exact same scope of work.
Residential Owners: In the commercial world these designs are used to make sure that irrigation contractors are submitting the same bids. A design for a residential property may be simpler, but the value remains the same. If you provide an irrigation design to different contractors, you will be able to easily compare the quotes as they will be for the same system. In comparison if you ask different contractors for a quote, which system will be unique and therefore the quotes will be drastically different, which makes it nearly impossible to compare.
Types of Sevices
Our designs are a professional service and are completed using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to ensure accuracy and clarity of each design.

- Sizing a pump for a water feature
When does counter support turn into a professional service?
We’re always happy to provide simple, in‑store “how‑to” guidance, and when your project requires deeper expertise, our design team is ready to deliver tailored, property‑specific solutions.
*Counter support is not appointment-based and depends on staff availability.ere
Residential Irrigation Design
Transform your yard into a lush, low-maintenance oasis. Our residential designs are tailored to the unique micro-climates of your property, ensuring your lawn and garden receive exactly the amount of water they need—no more, no less.
Why Choose a Wes-Tech Residential Design?
A DIY approach often results in dry spots, over‑watering, and unnecessarily high-water bills. Without a proper design, an irrigation system becomes difficult—if not impossible—to manage effectively.
Our Computer Aided Design (CAD) designs provide maximum coverage and matched precipitation rates. Whether you plan to hire a contractor or install the system yourself, our designs act as a step-by-step map to a professional-grade installation. Our designs are not manufactured based; we select the best products from a variety of manufacturers that are best suited for your project. In addition, having an irrigation design for your project allows you to have reference material to supervise contractors to make sure that you get the system you want and martials are being installed correctly and to specification.
Benefits of an Automated Irrigation System
- Efficiency: An efficient irrigation system makes sure the right amount of water is precisely delivered at the right time, reducing waste while improving overall landscape health.
- Water Conservation: The use of high efficiency nozzles with pressure regulating bodies and dripline helps lead to less wasted water. Saving water means you are ultimately saving money. No longer have to turn off the hose after you have forgotten that it was running. Allows you to schedule watering times during optimal hours, such as early morning or late evening, to reduce evaporation.
- Convenience: Smart irrigation controllers are readily available and allow you to monitor and have control over your system remotely.
- Time Savings: With an automatic irrigation system, you know longer need to walk around your yard to water the garden or remember to move the sprinkler to water the lawn. Instead of working in your yard, you can spend time enjoying it or allowing you to enjoy the added free time away from your house.
- Property Value: A well-maintained lawn and garden improve curb appeal and adds value to your property. Potential buyers often see an automated irrigation system as a desirable feature because it reduces maintenance efforts.
To begin your design, we require the following:
- A Scaled Landscape Plan: We need an accurate layout of your property, including elevations, hardscapes (patios, driveways), planting beds, turf and any available.
- Format: Electronic (pdf or CAD file) is preferred.
- Scanning: We can scan physical drawings up to 11” x 17” in-house.
- Water Source Data: Accurate hydraulics are critical. We need to know:
- Location of the water source.
- Size of the service line.
- Static water pressure (PSI).
- Available flow (GPM).
- Controller Location: Where do you want the "brain" of the system installed? (e.g., garage, shed).
- Your Preferences: Tell us how you want to water. Do you prefer drip irrigation for flower beds to prevent disease? Are you interested in a Wi-Fi-enabled smart controller that adjusts for local weather?
Sample Residential Irrigation Designs
Below are links to two sample irrigation designs for two different residential properties. The first design is for a simple back yard lawn that is designed with rotary sprays to irrigate the lawn. The second design is more complex, as it’s for the full property. The large front yard is designed with large turf rotors while the rest of the turf is being irrigated with rotary sprays. In addition, there is a zone to irrigate a row of fruit trees with dripline tree rings.
Commercial Project Requirements:
Similar to residential projects, we utilize advanced CAD software to create our commercial p. We require a finalized, approved landscape plan (electronic .pdf or CAD) including grade elevations, alongside detailed water source data.
- A Scaled Landscape Plan: We need an accurate layout of your property, including elevations, hardscapes (patios, driveways), available sleeving and planting beds.
- Format: Electronic (pdf or CAD file) is preferred.
- Water Source Data: Accurate hydraulics are critical. We need to know:
- Location of the water source.
- Size of the service line.
- Static water pressure (PSI).
- Available flow (GPM).
- Controller Location: Where you want the "brain" of the system installed (e.g., electrical room, mechanical room).
- Your Preferences: Tell us how you want to water. Do you prefer drip irrigation for flower beds to prevent disease? Are you interested in a Wi-Fi-enabled smart controller that adjusts for local weather?
Sample Commercial Irrigation Design
Below is a link to a sample commercial irrigation design, this design is for a large multi-unit townhouse project. This project is designed as a two-wire irrigation system due to the size and complexity of the project. There are three different methods of irrigation across this project which include: sprays for the turf, dripline for planting beds and drip tree rings for any trees that are in turf.

The Practical Side of Irrigation Designs
When an irrigation contractor is in the field installing a system that has an irrigation design, that is the only thing that they look at and follow. We strive to make sure that all of the relevant information that is needed is on the irrigation design either in the form of a text call out, equipment placed, head placement, pipe callouts, text in reference notes or provided in the details. This is because an irrigation system is only as good as the design it’s based on.
