Irrigation Filtration Mesh and Micron Ratings Guide

Irrigation filters have a mesh rating and micron rating. Mesh count defines the number of openings per linear inch, whereas the micron rating defines the size of the opening. As such, these ratings are always translatable with one another. For example, 80 mesh is always 200 micron.  Generally, 80 mesh is used for sprinkler zones and 120-150 mesh is used for micro/drip zones. Consult the manufacturer's specifications of the products you are trying to filter to see what they recommend.

Irrigation filtration protects sprinkler and drip systems from debris, improving efficiency and reducing clogs. Filtration ratings come in mesh and micron sizes, which translate to one another (for example, 80 mesh equals about 200 microns). This helps you select the right filter for sprinkler zones or micro/drip lines. With a Canadian supplier network and guidance from manufacturers, you can filter confidently to fit your irrigation setup and local conditions.

Examples you can rely on include the 2" MNPT Screen Filter - 155/100 - P80-155 for mainlines, the Replacement Polyester 155 Mesh Screen 155/100 - 903RS for economical filtration, the Replacement Stainless 155 Mesh Steel Screen 155/100 - 903SS for rugged duty, and the Toro 150 Mesh Disc Y-Filter - TDF150 GROUP for compact drip setups.
